The owner of the duplex that Kacey and I put in an application for wants to meet us before approving our application. This is after she was given a cashier's check for the deposit, photocopies of pay stubs, and verbal and written confirmation of our employment status from our respective managers. She also wants photocopies of our license, for whatever reason. The realtor informed me in the same email that the place doesn't have a fridge. I'm not buying a damn fridge for a rental property.

I am concerned that they won't give us back our deposit, but I remember that they can't keep the deposit if they don't approve our application. Since they want to meet us in person before approving the application, the part of my brain honed by studying French Farce has gifted me a wonderful plan whereby, if they refuse to give us our deposit back, Kacey and I meet the owner in person and proceed to be the worst, most obnoxious individuals the woman has ever met. Possibly with an odor...and a bottle of scotch in hand.

So, I think I'm still in search of a home...unless this jackass property owner gets their act together and buys all of the appliances that normal people expect to be present in a rental home.

When I moved into my previous apartment, it came with "hook-ups" for a washer and drier. When I explained that I was reluctant to pay the amount of rent he wanted for a place with no washer and drier (and that I wasn't about to buy them for a rental property) he went out and bought some.

The realtor called both of us to tell us that he's working on the fridge situation. Wonder how long I should give them.

We rented a house and bought I fridge when I was a senior with very similar situations. What was happening is that it was the owners first rental property and first tenants and they were very hesitant to rent to anyone. It all worked out OK and we bought a scratch and dent fridge for a few hundred dollars and sold it when we left.
